As mentioned in our previous article, each island in the Balearics has its own character and particularities. Today, we will talk about what needs to be considered when planning an event in Mallorca.

Mallorca is the biggest island of all 4 and the capital of the Balearic Islands. Mallorca is very well connected to the main European Capitals and big cities, in fact Palma’s Airport is the 3rd in Spain after Madrid and Barcelona.

The island offers plenty of possibilities to discover, blending cultures and traditions and different areas and type of landscapes adapted for all type of visitors.

We can split the island in 5 areas:

Palma

Palma city and surroundings, including Illetas and Playa de Palma. 10-15 minutes from the airport.

West Side including Puerto Portals, Palmanova, Calvia, Andratx. 20-30 min from the airport

East Side including Llucmajor, Santany, Porto Petro, Canyamel and Cala D’or

North Side including Alcudia and Pollensa 45 -60 min from the airport.

Inner side of the island, away from the coast, focusing mainly on Santa Maria area, Binisalem, Valldemossa, Deia and Soller. 30 – 40 min from the airport.

Ideally, you will have to concentrate the event venues and locations in one specific area so that it can be cost and time effective from a logistics point of view. You can always organize a day activity or excursion in some other part of the island.

The road connectivity is also important as there are venues in privileged locations, but you need to consider always the added time as the access to these places may take longer than usual.

This is a practical example:  3 days event, medium size.

Let’s suppose you choose a hotel in Puerto Portals. In this case, you can select some nice restaurants very close by, in the same port, Illetas area, Port Adriano, Palma City, Calvia or Andratx area and even a nice traditional mansion in the inner part of the island.

In terms of activities, you can explore Palma City in the format you like most: Walking City Tour, Bike Tour, Tapas tour, treasure hunt, etc. You can even sail with a catamaran or different type of boat from/to Puerto Portals to/from the city, so, you can choose different activities during your event in Mallorca.

You can easily organize a day at sea sailing from the same Portals Harbour and go either west or east depending on the wind, choose a jeep or cabrio safari along the western side of the island, a day trip to the Tramuntana area visiting the picturesque villages as Valldemossa or Soller, or decide to spend the day at a nice beach club in Calvia or Illetas area.

A leak of territorial awareness can turn into a real problem in the middle of the coordination of the event, the island is fabulous but somehow tricky and unexpectedly challenging when managing events. A quick example could be accommodating the guests in a hotel in Deia  area and when heading to dinner or some other activity, not considering the narrow roads in the mountain area where you can often find many cyclists, depending on the time of the day and period of the year, that can slow down the buss and delay all you schedule for the day, making impossible fulfill with all you had planned or even worse.

These are only some ideas, as you can see, the offer is very wide, but the main recommendation is that the operative should be organized in the same side of the island. Planning considering this type of details can guarantee an efficient management of the event and assure the guests will have an incredible time visiting places and enjoying the time spent in each location, reducing the possibility of any setback.

It may seem a small territory, but a successful event in Mallorca requires thorough destination knowledge and this is why it is always recommended to count with a local partner that can deal with all possible unexpected turnouts with greater confidence and with an expert vision that can help foresee the steps ahead.
